SUMMARY:Screening of the Powerful Documentary: "Chasing Coral"
DESCRIPTION:Special Screening: “Chasing Coral”\nIn celebration of World Oceans Day\, and hosted by Ellicott City’s Wine Bin\, enjoy a special screening of the Sundance-winning documentary film\, “Chasing Coral\,” preceded by a lecture on the state of coral reefs by Dr. David E. Guggenheim\, adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University\, Advanced Academic Programs\, and founder and president of the nonprofit organization\, Ocean Doctor\, dedicated to the protection and restoration of coral reef ecosystems. Dr. Guggenheim will also be sharing excerpts of his new book\, “The Remarkable Reefs of Cuba: Hopeful Stories From the Ocean Doctor.” \nAlso featured will be free wine tastings by Proud Pour\,  whose wines and cider support 22 environmental nonprofits protecting bees\, soil\, wild oysters\, sea turtles\, and coral reefs. Their products are high quality and sustainably grown\, a celebration of good living and our beautiful planet. \nFree popcorn will be served! \nVisitors can set up beach chairs in the parking lot around 7:30pm. Dr. Guggenheim will speak at 8:00pm and the film screening begins at sundown (approximately 9:00pm). \nAbout “Chasing Coral” \n\n\nA team of divers\, photographers and scientists set out on a thrilling ocean adventure to discover why corals are vanishing at an unprecedented rate.\nThis film is the product of 500+ hours of underwater footage\, coral bleaching submissions from volunteers in 30 countries\, and support from more than 500 people in various locations around the world.\nBetween 2014 – 2017\, Chasing Coral captured the most severe bleaching event in recorded history. During these years\, 75% of corals suffered or died from heat stress brought on by climate change.\nIt is predicted that if nothing changes\, by 2034 there will be severe bleaching events every year and by 2050\, 90% of reefs could be lost.\n\n\nDownload Event Flyer: \nDownload Now!\n\n
